Scientists at the University of Michigan have unveiled a list of small dietary changes that can shorten or lengthen your life. The researchers used national health and environmental data to identify factors that had a measurable impact on how long people live when eaten daily. 

One of the biggest findings was that substituting just 10% of your daily calories from beef and processed meat to fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and some seafoods could give you an extra 48 minutes of healthy life for every day following the regime, as well as a 33% reduction in dietary carbon footprint.

Cured meat -27 minutes 

Burgers -10 minutes 

Sugary drinks -9 minutes 

Eat these life-lengthening foods 

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches +33 minutes 

Baked salmon +35 minutes 

Tomatoes +4 minutes 

Seafood mixed dishes +4 minutes 

Nuts and seeds +23 minutes
