So you’ve decided to go keto and it’s going great – you’ve reorganised your pantry, got your favourite recipes nailed and you’ve even got Fitfood’s keto menu for when you don’t have time to cook. But what about when you’re out and about? These tips will help you stay keto outside the comfort of your home.

Plan ahead

A little bit of research goes a long way. Scope out keto-friendly eateries near your home, workplace, in the central city and anywhere else you might find yourself hungry and adrift. It’ll save you having to make a rushed decision and potentially falling off the wagon because of it.

BYO snacks

Keep a little stash of keto-friendly snacks with you and replenish them regularly. Plain raw or roasted nuts, low-carb crackers, keto biscuits and beef jerky are all great long-life snacks you can keep in your bag to get you through until you get home.

Watch your sauces

When you’re eating out, it’s usually pretty easy to create a keto-friendly meal even if the restaurant doesn’t have specific keto options. Just remember to watch out for additional sauces or glazes – these can often be high in sugar or carbs, and you won’t realise until your steak comes out smothered in it. Talk to your server – most places will be more than happy to nix the sauce or put it on the side for you.

Add the good fats

For an extra boost of keto satisfaction, ask for the good fats when you’re ordering food. Ask for extra butter on your vegetables, olive oil on your salad, and cream in your coffee or tea.
